Preliminary Report on Incident of Fire in Train No. 12622 up New Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express


Dehradun:The Incident of Fire Was Caused due to Accidental Igniting of Crackers being Carried in the S-11 Coach of the Train.
Shri Dinesh Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Ministry of Civil Aviation, South Central Circle, Secunderabad has conducted statutory inquiry into incident of fire in Train \no. 12622 UP New Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express at Km. 172/23-25 between Nellore and Vedayapalem stations on Vijayawada-Gudur BG electrified double line section, Group ‘A’ route of Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway at 04.18 hrs on 30.7.2012. As a result of this accident 30 passengers were killed, 6 passengers sustained grievous injuries and 22 passengers suffered simple injuries.
According to the findings of the Commissioner appended with the report the incident of fire was caused due to accidental igniting of crackers being carried in the S-11 coach of the train. 

The unusual occurrence falls under the category of “Failure of persons other than Railway staff”.
